FT: Butembe 1-2 Kigulu.
Kigulu have secured their first victory of the 2026 MTN Busoga Masaza Cup after defeating Butembe 2-1 at Kakindu Stadium in Jinja City on Wednesday, September 30.
Kisambira Abbas was the hero for Kigulu, scoring both goals to earn the Man of the Match award and take his tally to two goals. He now joins Bugabula’s Kigenyi Benon and Bugweri’s Gerald Lukoola among the tournament’s leading scorers with two goals each.
Butembe’s consolation goal was scored by Ochen Micah.
Kigulu’s victory came after two consecutive 1-1 draws against Butembe at Iganga Saza Ground and Bunhole Bunhanumba at Bugadde Primary School Playground. They have now scored in all three matches but have also conceded in every game.
Kigulu head coach Waiswa Sinani admitted that conceding goals remains a concern but said it is an issue he will address in the dressing room ahead of their upcoming matches.
The victory lifts Kigulu to the top of Mawembe Hill Group with five points from three games, followed by Butembe on four points from three games and Bunhole Bunhanumba on one point from two games.
With the group still tightly contested, all three teams remain in contention for a place in the knockout stage.
The MTN Busoga Masaza Cup continues on Thursday, October 1, with a Kagulu Hill Group clash between Buzaya and Luuka at Nawanyago Primary School Playground, starting at 4pm.
